SWD Club Breeder's Agreement

I agree to abide by the following code.

1. I will maintain my dogs in an environment conducive to fostering their proper physical and mental health and well being.

2. I will deal honestly with inquirers and help educate them about the Spanish Water Dog.

3. I will provide prospective owners, prior to a transfer or sale, copies of all health test results on the sire and the dam of puppies or dogs I have for sale or placement. This health information will include, where available, the OFA, PennHIP, and CERF ratings, or any similar certified tests from the dog or puppy's country of residence. If one or both of the parent dogs do not have certain of these ratings, the prospective owners will be so advised. If either parent is known to be affected with a health problem, including but not limited to Hip Dysplasia, Hypothyroidism, Hair Loss or PRA, or is an obligate carrier of PRA, the prospective owners will be advised. If an adult dog is being sold or transferred, the same information will be provided for that dog as well as its parents.

4. I will deal honestly with the owner of a stud dog servicing my brood bitch or the owner of a brood bitch being serviced by my stud dog and will provide all health information as stated in Section 3 or this Code. I will encourage owners of stud dogs I use or brood bitches who use my stud dog to participate in the SWD Club Health Registry.

5. I will provide a written contract or agreement for the sale or placement of each puppy/dog and will include copies of all pertinent health information with said contract or agreement. This is for my own protection as well as the puppy/dog involved and the new owners.

6. I will do my best to adequately query prospective owners prior to the sale or placement of a puppy/dog. I will do so to insure that every puppy/dog will have a life with dignity, freedom from fear and pain, proper care, socialization, training and grooming and a devoted owner.

7. I will be certain my brood bitch receives proper care, especially during pregnancy and whelping, and that my stud dog's good health is maintained at all times.

8. I will ensure all puppies receive proper veterinary care from whelping until placement with a permanent owner.

9. I will provide my puppies with as much human contact as possible to ensure proper socialization to people.

10. I will be available to provide advice, guidance and information to the owners of my puppy/dog throughout the lifetime of the animal.

11. I will accept the return of any puppy/dog I have bred and sold or placed. If the puppy/dog comes into a rescue and relocation program, I will reclaim the puppy/dog or accept full financial responsibility for its care, until such time as the rescue and relocation program has been able to act in behalf of the puppy/dog.

12. I will remain current on all health issues involving the breed and will update the SWD Club Health Registry with any changes to my dog's health information.

13. All of the litters which I have breed or co-bred have been registered with an appropriate directory for my country. When the Spanish Water Dog is recognized by the AKC's Foundation Stock Service program, all litters born in the United States will be registered with that registry. I will periodically review these listings and forward any changes.

14. I understand the Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc. requests but does not require that I provide the club names/addresses of the owners of my puppies/dogs. The SWD Club makes this request in order to send information on becoming a club member to new Spanish Water Dog owners.

15. I will provide to anyone who obtains a puppy/dog from me, the name and address of the Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc. Secretary, so that they may contact the club if they so choose, and I will encourage them to participate in the SWD Club Health Registry.

16. I have read and am familiar with the AKC Breed Standard for the Spanish Water Dog and will do my best to breed dogs which fit that description.

17. I understand I will be removed immediately from the Breeder's Referral List if suspended by the AKC or Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc. for any reason. Upon reinstatement by the AKC or SWD Club, I can reapply for inclusion on the next Breeder's Referral List.

18. I understand that if the Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc. receives a formal complaint about my actions as a participant on the Breeder's Referral List, a formal inquiry may result. If I am found in violation of any part of this Breeder's Agreement, I may be removed from the list for a specified period of time, in accordance with Article VI of the Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc.'s Bylaws.

19. I agree that under no circumstances will I knowingly sell a puppy/dog to a pet store or broker.

20. If I wish to list as available specific litters or dogs through the SWD Club, I will submit hip and eye clearances of both parents. These health clearances will be published for public knowledge.

I wish to sign on the Breeder's Agreement, so that I may be included in the Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc.'s Breeder Referral List. I am a member in good standing of the Spanish Water Dog Club, Inc. and have provided or am willing to provide information on all of my dogs to the SWD Club Health Registry.
