Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (NAD)
by Dane Hardin, SWDCA Health and Wellness Committee
NAD is a complex of neurodegenerative diseases that affect various species and dog breeds. It has been identified in Rottweilers, Papillons, Collies, Jack Russel terriers, and in 2015 was described in Spanish Water Dogs by European investigators (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0141824). The disease has also been identified in sheep and humans.
